Machine Learning Department at Carnegie Mellon University. Machine learning (ML) is a fascinating field of AI research and practice, where computer agents improve through experience. Machine learning is about agents improving from data, knowledge, experience and interaction.
Carnegie Mellon’s College of Engineering and the College of Engineering and Architecture of Howard University offer a dual Ph.D. program that awards a Ph.D. degree from both universities. Students must be admitted to engineering Ph.D. programs at both institutions, although they are not required to be from the same department at each university. Students will spend at least three academic.
The student must write and publicly defend a Doctoral Dissertation. The University standard for the Ph.D. degree states that the thesis must embody the results of extended research, constitute an original contribution to knowledge, and include material worthy of publication. It must demonstrate the candidate’s ability to conduct an independent investigation, to abstract principles from which.

Prior to proposing a dissertation topic, each student will form a PhD committee consisting of an advisor, at least two but as many as three HCII faculty members and one outside faculty member (taken from either another CMU department or from outside the University). This committee will be responsible.
Ph.D. in HCI. CMU’s Ph.D. program in human-computer interaction is rigorous, creative, and deeply interdisciplinary. The small and select group of students that we admit each year study with both the founders of the field of HCI and the newest generation of top scholars. Learn more about our program. Our doctoral students engage in research from the moment they arrive, and take courses from.
